Position Summary:
The Prevention Educator supports Family Services’ sexual violence prevention initiatives by providing outreach, education, and awareness programs to youth and adults throughout Tulare County. This position plays an essential role in assisting with training development, community engagement, and program coordination to promote evidence-based, prevention-focused messaging. The Prevention Educator will collaborate closely with the Program Coordinator and community partners—including the local LGBTQ+ center—to deliver inclusive, trauma-informed prevention education and events. The role requires occasional travel within and outside of Tulare County.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Engagement & Education
- Provide outreach and prevention programs to youth and adults throughout Tulare County.
- Greet clients, donors, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner, assisting them in connecting with the appropriate staff person.
- Answer telephone calls, direct them to the appropriate individuals, or take messages as needed. Respond to general inquiries regarding Family Services and refer to community resources when appropriate.
- Provide public education presentations on sexual assault awareness and prevention, the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), the Rape Crisis Center, and available services in Tulare County.
- Provide prevention presentations highlighting the correlation between alcohol/other drugs and sexual assault.
- Facilitate and assist with the Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition, including coalition building, recruitment, and maintaining strong relationships with partner agencies and community members.
- Help coordinate and facilitate coalition meetings, including creating agendas, preparing digital content (flyers, PowerPoints), and distributing meeting notices.
- Meet and collaborate with local community partners and stakeholders to promote prevention initiatives.
Program Implementation & Development
- Schedule and assist in developing training programs, distribute meeting and coalition notices, and support the Program Coordinator in facilitating prevention-focused trainings, workshops, special events, and campaigns.
- Assist with the facilitation and implementation of community-driven campaigns, policies, practices, and action plans aimed at promoting community and societal-level change.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator and local LGBTQ+ center to deliver inclusive and evidence-based prevention education.
- Assist with creating, updating, and distributing educational materials and activities that align with national best practices for sexual violence prevention messaging.
- Support the evaluation of Family Services’ primary prevention education program and identify areas for improvement.
Data Management & Reporting
- Document and report the number of presentations, participants, and other deliverables as required by funders.
- Maintain accurate data collection and program records.
- Submit community assessments to CDPH for review and include in Bi-Annual Progress Reports.
- Complete grant training logs and provide them in Bi-Annual Progress Reports.
- Participate in required technical assistance (TTA) in-person events and trainings.
- Maintain and organize statistical and narrative reports as required by funders.
Crisis Response & Internal Support
- Communicate any concerns, group dynamics issues, or program needs promptly to the Program Manager.
- Attend all staff meetings, training, and committee meetings as assigned.
- Complete the 40-hour Rape Crisis Counselor Training (provided in-house and on-the-job).
- Adhere to policies related to HIPAA, confidentiality, information sharing, and appropriate use of the agency client database.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Safely perform all duties to avoid injury to self, co-workers, and clients.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in social work or a similar field. Two years of social service experience or working with youth and adults in a similar setting may be accepted in-lieu of a degree.
- Experience: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, word-processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics required. Experience with a human/social services provider. Demonstrate effective public speaking/communication skills.
- Transportation: California Driver’s License, availability of automobile for business use, and at least minimum auto liability insurance as required by law.
- Additional Requirement: Must receive clearance from the Department of Justice Criminal Record Offender Information database. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Physical Demands & Working Environment
- Environment: Standard office; occasional travel from site to site; occasional exposure to the sun, moderate heat, noise, dust, and fumes; stressful calls/situations. Requires the kind of teamwork, supervision, and personal interaction, that cannot be had in a home office situation; therefore, regular and predictable on-site attendance is a job requirement.
- Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and field environment, including occasional travel to various locations; sitting for prolonged periods, standing for brief periods; climbing 3-5 stairs; operating modern office equipment. Work requires lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other physical exertion. Lift to 25 lbs.
- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate the equipment.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must possess the ability to understand and appreciate diversity and to be sensitive to different experiences and cultures.
