JOB DESCRIPTION - Prevention Coordinator

Position: Prevention Coordinator (Full-Time, grant-funded position)

Wage: $21.22/hour 

Reports to: Chief Development and Communications Officer

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Visalia, CA

Language: English, Spanish preferred 

Position Summary:

The Prevention Coordinator leads, coordinates, and evaluates prevention-focused programs, serving as the project lead for the Rape Prevention Education (RPE) project and ensuring all trainings, workshops, events, and public awareness efforts are evidence-based and aligned with national best practices for sexual violence prevention. This role manages program operations by overseeing timelines, budgets, resources, and reporting requirements while collaborating with internal staff and community partners, including the local LGBTQ center, to educate the community and strengthen prevention efforts. The Coordinator also assists with staff training, supports prevention-focused events, maintains accurate program records, provides trauma-informed crisis intervention when needed, and completes required statistical and narrative reports for CDPH and Family Services, with occasional travel throughout Tulare County and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet clients, donors, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner, assisting them in connecting with the appropriate staff member.
  • Answer telephone calls, direct them to the appropriate individuals, or take messages as needed. Answer general questions regarding FSTC and refer to essential community resources when necessary.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partner agencies and other community members.
  • Coordinate and facilitate our Sexual Assault Primary Prevention Coalition (SAPPC).
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive rape prevention education programs.
  • Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to deliver prevention education.
  • Conduct workshops, presentations, and training sessions on topics related to sexual violence prevention.
  • Create educational materials and resources to support prevention efforts.
  • Engage in community outreach to raise awareness about sexual violence and available resources.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of prevention programs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed about current research and best practices in sexual violence prevention and incorporate this knowledge into program development.
  • Participate in community events and represent the organization at relevant meetings and conferences.
  • Provide support and resources to individuals and groups seeking to implement prevention initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Family Services’ primary prevention education program.
  • Attend all required conferences and training related to the program.
  • Research, create, and update educational materials and activities.
  • Maintain records and submit statistical and narrative reports as required by Cal-OES and Family Services.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Complete the 40-hour Rape Crisis Counselor Training (provided as in-house and on-the-job training).
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention services during education presentations, group facilitation, and at the Rape Crisis Center when needed.
  • Understand and appreciate diversity, and be sensitive to different experiences and lifestyles.
  • Maintain open communication with appropriate staff regarding the completion of projects and any needs for additional work.
  • May assist with grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of the program; may participate in other fundraising activities.
  • Communicate any problems or concerns with group members or group dynamics to the Program Manager promptly.
  • Adhere to policies related to HIPAA, confidentiality, information sharing, and appropriate use of the agency-client database.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Safely perform all duties to avoid injury to self, co-workers, and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in program coordination, event planning, or project management.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other relevant software.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in office, visitation center, and/or community-based settings.
  • Position requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds on occasion.
  • May require bending, reaching, and repetitive motions (typing, writing, handling visitation materials).
  • Requires ability to respond quickly and physically if intervention is necessary to ensure child safety.
  • May involve exposure to emotionally charged or stressful situations.
  • Regular use of computer, phone, and other standard office equipment.
  • Occasional evenings or weekends may be required to accommodate visitation schedules.
