SUMMARY:
The Human Trafficking (HT) Victim Advocate provides supportive counseling, information/referrals, and advocacy services to survivors of human trafficking and assists the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) HT Coordinator in providing HT community education and outreach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to general information and crisis telephone calls
  • Greet human trafficking clients/visitors in a friendly and professional manner and assist them as needed, including connecting them with the appropriate staff person.
  • Work with the OVC-funded HT Coordinator to ensure completion of grant goals and objectives including completion of service provision reports.
  • Must demonstrate the capacity to be highly organized and detail-oriented; to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English.
  • Must possess the ability to understand and appreciate diversity, and to be sensitive to different experiences and cultures.
  • Provide confidential, trauma-informed, and comprehensive case management services essential to helping trafficking survivors achieve independence and self-sufficiency. Assess clients’ needs for additional services and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide culturally sensitive crisis intervention and personal, confidential peer counseling to human trafficking survivors and their significant others at Family Services and other locations as needed.
  • Provide human trafficking outreach, community education, and training to professionals in regards to identifying and assisting survivors of human trafficking.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Tulare County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and develop linkages with related service providers.
  • Maintain regular and open communication with appropriate staff regarding the completion of projects and any needs for additional work.
  • Maintain records and submit statistical and narrative reports as required by OVC and Family Services.
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of Human Trafficking Awareness month activities and other special events throughout the year.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage a caseload of up to 25 clients.
  • Complete information required for client files or service provision records.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: An Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in social services, psychology or related field or minimum two years work or volunteer experience that demonstrates relevance to the job duties.
  • Experience: Bilingual/Bicultural (English/Spanish) helpful. Knowledge of wide-ranging community resources.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, word-processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics required. Demonstrate effective public speaking/communication skills.
  • Transportation: Must possess valid California Driver License, availability of auto for business use, and minimal insurance as required by law.

Environment: Standard office setting; occasional travel from site to site; occasional exposure to sun, moderate heat, noise, dust, and fumes; stressful calls/situations.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and field environment including travel to various locations; sit for prolonged periods of time; stand for brief periods of time; climb 3-5 stairs; operate office equipment including a computer keyboard. Lift up to 25 lbs.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
